Customer Review: I bought the book because it is required for a class I am taking. It goes over basic computer information and goes into how to decide what system will work for your situation and how to train folks etc.
It is not leisure reading, but a good resource book. I;m only half way through it and I have not started the class yet. (I read ahead).

Customer Review: At first, and up to four days ago, I thought this book was dull, and poorly written.
But, while reviewing details and actually typing out answers to questions and terms at the end of the chapters, I became more interested in what these authors have to share.
As someone who reviews many books, I approached this book with mixed thoughts. The topic is great. The chapters cover a great deal about healthcare technology. But the writing is not so good. For example, the objectives at the beginning of each chapter start with things like, "To be able to ... " rather than just the action verbs.
There is also a great deal of redundancy in this book.

Customer Review: Their are very few texts for nursing informatics. This particular book is excellent for faculty and students to discuss the various aspects of informatics. Chapters on theory and issues are comprehensive. There are also chapters applying informatics to nursing administration, education, and research. Of particular interest to me is the section on international perspectives. I particulary like that experts in the field were used to write chapters. Solid text.

Customer Review: I am using this book in a graduate level course and find it to be very complete in its discussion of this broad topic. The author, Shortliffe, is now President of the American Medical Informatics Association. If you purchase this book, you will be doing best to get just the textbook, and not the digital version, the so-called "Upgrade" to read online.
The annotations features for highlighting and leaving bookmarks are almost always "temporarily unavailable". I was surprised to find out today that I had reached the "usage limit" on reading my book online, and was denied further access.
