Customer Review: I've read twenty-five of Burke's books; this was one of the least pleasing and certainly the longest. If his editor/publisher had forced him to cut 100-150 pages out of this, it would have been a 4-star,IMHO.
Hackberry Holland and Dave Robicheaux share too many things in common: both troubled war vets (Korea and Vietnam respectively); both recovering alcoholics, at least physically; both suffer from chronic (and similar type) nightmares, both hard-as-nails stubborn, to the point of stupidity in Holland's case; and both very hard on their families and friends, and the more so the more loyal the friend (people around him get hurt or killed). My point; Burke needs a new model, a new form...
