by Nick Trout
Amazon Price: $10.08
Customer Review: In the tradition of veterinarian James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small), Trout weaves together stories of life and death, successes and failures, pets rambunctious or stoic, and clients obstreperous or grateful. Although modern veterinary medicine and technology are light years ahead of Herriot's 1930's Yorkshire practice, our patients and our clients haven't changed. To some people, animals will never be more than a commodity--a cow to milk, a pig to eat, or a dog to guard the flock. But to other people, animals are family, and it is to these people and their beloved pets that we veterinarians dedicate our lives.

Customer Review: Claudia's story is a well-wriiten easy read of a young woman's journey toward recovery from a TBI. I have studied TBI in graduate school, but this story brought the TBI research to life. A first hand look at a devastating injury that is the leading cause of death for those under 35 years old and many in the military. TBI is rapidly becoming a much more common injury and is rated a high priority by WHO. This book is an enjoyable way to learn about this prevalent injury in a quick and interesting read.

Customer Review: Since I'm orginally from Ohio now living in Michigan and working for a 75 year old "country" vet.......I could relate to every funny or sad story. The clients were so real. I loved the book so much that I gave it to all of the employees at our clinic. One girl said that she "couldn't put the book down" and read it all in one day.

Customer Review: Wow! I recently bought my Kindle and have been wondering what books I can download - as this was free I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did! Based on the blog posts of the author, it covers the situations he finds himself in as an ambulance driver for the London Ambulance Service.
A good read AND it's free - what's not to love?

by Joan Rivers, Valerie Frankel
Amazon Price: $10.20
Customer Review: Joan River's book is everything you want to know about almost every kind of plastic surgery/non surgical procedure, from how to choose a good doctor to what each procedure is called, what it's supposed to improve, and what the risks can be. She delivers all the information with her usual sense of humor.
You will like this book if you: Enjoy Joan River's comedic style; are wanting a starting place for finding out about the many beauty/anti-aging procedures out there; you like reading about the work (good and bad) that several celebrities have had.

by Jeff Wells
Amazon Price: $10.91
Customer Review: I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if, years ago, I had not read very similar books written by James Herriot. This book is written along the same lines - insecure vet meets contrary animals with insensitve owners - but Jeff Wells does not have the same level of writing skills of a James Herriot. But once I had managed to stop comparing the two vets, I enjoyed these short stories very much, although at times I wished they were not quite so short. The only real criticism I would offer is that Wells does not seem to know the meaning of certain words. He uses words such as 'sneer', 'smirk' and 'leer' quite frequently as discriptors and more often that not, they are clearly not...

Customer Review: First let me state that I have not been diagnosed with prostate cancer, yet! Over the last 15 years, since I was 50, I have experienced a roller coaster of PSA levels. The low numbers were still near or above 4 and the highs were above 8! These ups and downs have caused many hours of anxiety for me and my wife. During this emotional ride, I have had 4 prostate biopsies, all were negative!! My last PSA was high again and we are back to the anxiety and deciding on waiting until my next appointment in 6 months or having another biopsy just to be sure?? Then during a routine visit with my primary care doctor I brought him up-to-date on my prostate adventure. He told me about Dr. McHugh's ...

Customer Review: A friend of mine gave me this book after going through treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I knew of and liked Robert through his stand up, but I was totally blown away by this book. I read it cover to cover in a few hours, and was moved from outloud laughter to tears several times.
Fast forward 1 year and my father in law is diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. Now my father in law is a born again christian, and Robert is a very blue comedian. But I bought him this book and gave it too him with a verbal disclaimer. HE LOVED IT!!! He has given copies to freinds and neighbors with cancer, he was reading it during his chemo treatments and was laughing so hard that the place whe...

Customer Review: This book will put you through the emotional spectrum: one page makes you want to puke, the next one practically breaks your heart. It is also hillarious, and even manages to be informative. Nothing is missing. The content may be shocking to some, but it is tactfully written. This is a sympathetic presentation of life in the extreme, about how a flawed man, in a flawed world, can still manage to care deeply for people.

Customer Review: From the first essay, "Be Jewish," Doctor London's book "Kill as Few Patients as Possible: And Fifty-Six Other Essays on How to Be the World's Best Doctor" will surely keep you laughing. If you don't laugh at some point during this rather short book, there is little hope for you as either you have no sense of humour at all (which should be considered a medical emergency) or you have somehow been blessed to never experience a doctors office.
I've often been told that my funny bone was likely removed at birth because I don't find many things funny, but I cannot tell you how many times I had to pause to bite my lower lip to keep from laughing so hard that I would wake the house. Ev...
